QR-Code And Document Scanning Matrix

Motivation:

From time to time we need to make pictures of documents. The reasons are various but mostly reasonable. And even if they are not, we still want to have the ability. Another interesting field is scanning QR-Codes. This test tries to reach two goals:

  • Show the ability of a phones to scan QR-Codes and documents.
  • Present the collected data in a clear and comparable manner.

Experimental Setup:

I created a test of 11 QR-Codes and text-snippets in 7 different font sizes, starting at 4pt and going up to 14pt. This test is no race so with every device I played around to find the best settings. To read the QR-Codes I used (on Symbian) UpCode.

This is the content of the QR-Codes:

  • 1. URL: http://eve-c.org/tec
  • 2. URL: http://eve-c.org/category/tech/
  • 3. URL: http://eve-c.org/alongurlpointingtothesametechcategory
  • 50-chars: *This is1/(one) random! text with 50 characters.*
  • 75-chars: *This is1/(one) random! text with 50 characters.->This has 25 chars more.*

The more the merrier! But my access to devices is limited. Sad, but true. So please support this matrix and test your own phone! Just download the QR-Document-Test, fire up your QR-Code-Reader and camera software and sent me the results at webmaster {at} eve-c.org. Please attach the best shot of the document and give me details about your phone and which software (version of the OS and which QR-Reader) you are using.
